Gigi Hadid Brings Out All Her Model Friends at Tommy Hilfiger

When your collection is themed around a carnival, you have to go big or go home with the casting. With an entire pier transformed into an amusement park andTaylor Swift sitting in the front row, Tommy Hilfiger’s most recent Fall 2016 showwas as bombastic as New York Fashion Week gets. Aside from promising newer faces such as Luna Bijl and Alicia Burke, the lineup was dominated by model stars just as you would expect. Victoria’s Secret Angels Stella Maxwell and Sara Sampaio; social media darling Hailey Baldwin; runway mainstays Julia Nobis,Imaan Hammam, and Tami Williams; offbeat editorial beauties Hanne Gaby Odiele, Binx Walton, and Ysaunny Brito all found a place on Hilfiger’s runway.
Of course, you can’t talk Tommy without mentioning his new design collaborator,Gigi Hadid. Opening the show, which featured mostly pieces from the Tommy x Gigi capsule collection, Hadid’s presence loomed large. As the latest young woman to embody the Hilfiger look, her fresh-faced beauty harks back to supermodel predecessors Angela Lindvall, Amy Lemons, and Leilani Bishop. The youthful, healthy, quintessentially American girl next door has been a constant for the brand since the ’90s, though the show’s diverse casting demonstrated that that look is now far more inclusive than it used to be—Hadid herself is half Palestinian. In fact Hilfiger and casting director Michelle Lee seemed to be putting out the message that everyone—classic beauties, edgy misfits, bombshells, and even oddballs—can be a Tommy girl.
